How To Add Visitors To Your Events
We’ve all done it. Planned, organized, worked, worked, and worked some more, just to have an event that doesn’t attract a single new person. That’s all right – numbers don’t measure the success of an event, but if you’d like to increase attendance at the next event, here are a few tips.
1.) Create a flyer. Not a brochure, but a flyer. A flyer typically is small with few details. Make sure the flyer includes all the details of the event – don’t assume anything! If the event is at the church, be sure to put the address and maybe even a small map or directions. Make sure all your bases are covered.
2.) Make sure everyone in your church has flyers to distribute. Bring them to your neighborhoods (don’t put them in the mailbox!), ask the neighborhood stores if they will put a slightly enlarged poster-size flyer up on their wall, or maybe let you put a few flyers on a counter somewhere. Encourage everyone in the congregation to hand them out to their friends and co-workers.
3.) Again, don’t assume anything! Make sure the event is listed in your bulletin, email your members, text them if you have this set up, remind them in every way you can that the event is coming up. Statistics show that we need to be reminded of something 5-7 times before it really gets processed, so don’t worry that you’re overdoing it.
4.) Consider buying a mailing list for the area surrounding your church. This can be costly, however, so think about alternatives, such as visiting your utility company and Register of Deeds office for similar information at a much cheaper price. You never know until you ask!
5.) Finally, keep your website updated on current information concerning this event and all other activities of your church. This is easier and far less time-consuming than you think. Remember that even if you do all of these things, you may not increase the attendance at your event. That’s okay, however, if the ultimate goal is witness and outreach. Think about all of those people who heard or read about your event – you never know the seeds you sow!
